On August 23, My House Radio owner James Hall and I headed to Baltimore for Harbor Dance.

Harbor Dance is a standout monthly dance party in Baltimore, conceived by Domingo Canate and brought to life with the infectious energy of DJ Pope. Held at the iconic Hard Rock Pier, this event consistently delivers great vibes and great music that keep attendees coming back for more.

If you don’t know Domingo Canate, you should. He has made significant contributions to the preservation of house music culture. He was the executive producer of Hands to the Sky, a documentary film about outdoor house music dance parties. More recently, he authored I Was There, a memoir about his days as a dancer at the Paradise Garage.
Harbor Dance pulses with a lively, club-forward energy. The crowd is a mix of locals and visitors who are there to move, mingle, and soak in the music. Domingo’s efforts to build his brand are evident in the spectacular merch sold at the event. I couldn’t resist a hoodie, and I bet you won’t be able to resist a tee, tote, or hoodie either!

The concept behind Harbor Dance—thoughtfully curated by Domingo Canate—shines through in the sense of community. There’s a welcoming feel, with people from diverse backgrounds coming together to celebrate. A standout component of the night, DJ Pope brings a dynamic blend of tracks that balance crowd-pleasers with fresh, high-energy cuts. The selections feel thoughtful, maintaining momentum from start to finish. Expect a well-curated setlist that covers killer house, classics, and dance-floor anthems that keep the energy up and the dancers moving.
The fact that it’s a monthly event builds anticipation and helps attendees plan ahead, so that out-of-staters can plan a trip to check it out–something that I highly recommend! While at first blush, one would not associate the Hard Rock with house music, prepare yourself to be pleasantly surprised. The Hard Rock provides a spacious, high-energy setting with beautiful views of the city and the harbor. The food and drinks are great too!

The synergy between Domingo Canate’s concept and DJ Pope’s execution results in a cohesive night where the concept and music reinforce each other. Domingo Canate’s vision paired with DJ Pope’s skills creates a party that’s hard to miss for dance enthusiasts looking for great vibes and great music. If you love a fun, well-produced dance party at a great location, Harbor Dance is a must.
