Hubert Blanc-Francard from Cassius shares the story behind the much-loved house anthem, ‘Feeling For You’
In the latest episode of our The Making Of series, Hubert Blanc-Francard from Cassius shares the story behind the much-loved house anthem, ‘Feeling For You’.
Joining us at DJ Mag’s HQ, Blanc-Francard (aka Boombass) relives his childhood years, recalling fond memories of times spent with his father in the studio, where his love for music began.
He takes us through his early work in French hip-hop, which gained international recognition with La Funk Mob, a collaboration with the late Philippe Zdar. The duo later reunited to form Cassius, shifting from hip-hop to sample-heavy, upbeat house music.
‘Feeling For You’ exemplified this new direction, layering a sped-up Gwen McCrae sample over an irresistible groove. The track was featured on their 1999 debut album.
Zdar tragically passed away in 2019. In the episode, Blanc-Francard speaks about coping with grief, and finding the strength to carry on with the Cassius project in honour of 30 years of friendship and music.
He’s set to perform a limited run of shows under the Cassius name this April, heading to NYC, Paris and London.
Electronic music history is rich with unforgettable and timeless classics. In our The Making Of series, DJ Mag explores the tales behind some of the world’s favourite dance tracks, told by the people that made them.
