Resident Advisor is partnering with New York’s Queer Nightlife Community Center (QNCC) to host RA25 UNLOCKED, a free, one-day programme focused on developing sustainable careers in nightlife.
Taking place at the East New York venue on October 15th, the event will feature workshops covering sound engineering, lighting design and event production, alongside discussions on career pathways, event safety and harm reduction.
The programme is aimed at local nightlife workers and community members from East New York and Brownsville looking to expand their skills and improve financial stability.
Applications will prioritise groups including FLINTA individuals, LGBTQIA+ community members, disabled workers, lower-income applicants and residents of East New York and Brownsville. Speakers include Reynaldo Hernandez (AKA BASSBEAR!!), Kai Sundermann, JohnJohn DeArmas, Seva Granik, Danielle Pickering, and RA‘s Lauren Murada.
Participants will also have the opportunity to receive an honorarium to shadow a nightlife worker and mentor at a future QNCC event. The initiative forms part of RA‘s 25th anniversary programme.
Between now and December, we’ll be touching down with workshops, talks and fundraisers in New York, Mexico City, Dublin, Kampala, Paris, Berlin, Los Angeles, Eora (Sydney) and Rio de Janeiro, alongside continued community partnerships with Underground Music Academy in Detroit and Cape Town’s Bridges for Music.
