Opening on Ukrainian Independence Day, Mixmag Ukraine will run digital, social and video content — with an aim to spotlight local music and culture
Mixmag has opened its 22nd international office in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Officially launching today (August 24), on Ukrainian Independence Day, Mixmag Ukraine will run video, social and digital content; shining a light on Ukrainian dance music, nightlife, artists and wider club culture — alongside translating content from Mixmag.net into Ukrainian
The new office will be operated by music agency Go West, which works primarily in PR, media and education to promote Ukrainian artists and music tech organisations overseas. The Mixmag Ukraine team includes music journalist Sasha Varenytsia, music promo specialist and designer Oleksiy Varenytsia, as well as IT specialist, sound producer, synthesizer collector and former DJ, Maksym Proskurnia.
In a statement on the launch of Mixmag’s Kyiv office, Mixmag Ukraine said: “Mixmag Ukraine starts its work today. We are glad to welcome our colleagues and friends from Ukraine to the worldwide Mixmag family. We hope that this will be a good motivating stimulus for the local electronic scene, which has been fighting and resisting Russian aggression for more than a year and a half doing numerous charity parties, releasing compilations and supporting the community.”
“In recent years, the electronic scene in Ukraine has taken a big step forward. It becomes more open and integrated into the international cultural environment. Mixmag Ukraine aims to introduce the global audience to numerous new artists, labels and releases from Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa and other Ukrainian cities. We will also be happy to provide a platform for authors, journalists and reviewers from Ukraine who want to write about their scenes, heroes, events and stories.”
They continue: “Together with the Ukrainian music agency, Go West – which is responsible for the development of the Mixmag franchise in Ukraine – we will strive for pluralism of opinion, respect and equality for all minorities and communities and for covering various musical genres. The launch of Mixmag Ukraine is a joyful and symbolic event for all of us. That is why we launch the website on Independence Day. By doing this, we want to inspire our people to create further, achieve success and keep an unshakable faith in victory.”
Mixmag’s Global Managing Director Nick Stevenson echoed the Mixmag Ukraine team’s statement on the significance of the launch, writing: “As the newest location for the world’s biggest dance music and media brand, Mixmag Ukraine will give hope, inspiration, ambition and motivation to Ukraine’s DJs, producers, promoters, dancers, clubbers, party-people and fans of electronic music.
“Peace, love, unity and respect are the foundations of the global electronic music scene and this will be the underlining message Mixmag Ukraine will spread through its news, features, articles and events as part of Mixmag’s growing global family.
“The Mixmag Ukraine team has big plans for the future to expand to a large team of enthusiasts and music media professionals,” he continues. “A team who will help shape the landscape of Ukrainian dance music culture.
