Flying the flag for Brazil’s varied femme underground, Carola has compiled a list of kaleidoscopic rollers spanning house, melodic techno and more
Brazil’s electronic music scene is known for producing a range of unique, boundary-pushing sonic movements. So its less than surprising that Brazil is also home to incredible women carving a path as electronic producers, working to try and reshape the country’s sonic legacy in their own image. House music don, Carola, is one of them.
Hailing Porto Alegre Rio Grande do Sul, Carola has earned a reputation for her lithe Afro house-meets-minimal tech sound, making history as the first woman to be signed to Martin Garrix’s STMPD Records in 2020. Since then, Lee Burridge has tapped her for a support slot, while Fatboy Slim recently enlisted her for a remix of his 2001 classic ‘Ya Mama’ alongside MOGUAI.
Simultaneously, Carola has been flying the flag for Brazil’s eclectic femme/non-binary dance music producers for close to a decade, from platforming their music on stages such as Coachella, Lollapalooza Brazil and Tomorrowland, to locking in fellow producers and friends Bruna Strait and Curol to work on her latest EP ‘Hear Yourself‘, which landed on HE.SHE.THEY in September.
