Founded by local DJs, the 300-capacity space is located in a busy market area and will officially launch in November.

Unmute is a new 300-capacity club in Hanoi.
Housed in a warehouse-style building within a 24-hour fruit and vegetable market, the venue consists of two distinct spaces. Cuốn Club Room, on the fourth floor, has a dance floor and a locally built four-way sound system. Tan Bar, which occupies the building’s fifth and sixth floors, is more of a chill-out area with an 180-degree view of the city.
Focused on underground dance music, Unmute described its musical direction as “versatile and genre-free.” A slew of local artists are booked to play the grand opening party on the weekend of November 10th, including residents Lam Dao, Viet Anh, Anh Vy and Dusan, as well as Melbourne’s Reptant. The rest of the month will feature local collectives such as Atipik, Lien Hoan, Cap Cuu and Bung Lon, plus international names like Sam Goku, Mary Lake and Amor Satyr.
Unmute was started by Lam Dao, Hoang Khôi, Anh Vy (a resident at Ho Chi Minh City club The Observatory) and Viet Anh. Speaking to Resident Advisor, they said they opened the club to “contribute new infrastructure” to Hanoi’s ever-expanding electronic music community.
“We formed friendships during the pandemic and saw opportunities to create new experiences for the local creative ecosystem,” they described, adding how the city’s fresh generation of artists and fans are hungry for new sounds and experiences.
Looking ahead, Umute will gradually unveil more diverse event programming, including workshops and experimental performances. To stay updated, visit its Instagram page, and to learn more about Vietnam’s explosive nightlife landscape, revisit our 2022 feature.
