The newly renovated Amber Alehouse will open to the public later this year

Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2 has renovated one of its bars with a theme around the city’s famed Haçienda nightclub.

Set to open to the public later this year, The Amber Alehouse now features several design-based references to the storied venue, such as flooring patterns inspired by the now closed club’s infamous yellow and black design. There are also photos of well-known Manchester acts on the walls, such as Oasis and The Stone Roses, in addition to framed vinyl copies of classic Manchester-affiliated records.

Once it opens, the bar will host occasional guest DJ sets for travellers before they board their flights out of the airport, while the music will otherwise be specially curated by DJs via playlists.

The bar will take in beers from Salford-based brewery Seven Bro7her, while it will also serve cocktails named after Manchester and Haçienda affiliates, such as the Happy Mondays Mojito and New Order Negroni. There will also be a larger seating area in the bar upon its reopening.

“This bar is our love letter to Manchester’s musical heritage,” airport spokesperson Chris Woodroofe told Manchester Evening News. “We’ve recreated the electric atmosphere of The Haçienda right here in Terminal 2, so passengers can sip a cocktail while soaking in the vibes that made the club world-famous.

“Travellers often complain about soulless airport waits. This bar changes that – neon lights, graffiti walls, and Haçienda memorabilia will make it feel like a night out before your flight.”

Last year, Haçienda shared a classic mix archive featuring sets by Frankie Knuckles, DJ Paulette, Armand Van Helden and more.
